Giro d'Italia 2021 | Castelli

I wrote this task, as a test of my writing and I feel it deserves a place on my blog.

The build-up of excitement for the first Grand Tour race of the year is over. The Giro d’Italia has started and the buzz among cyclists is like a swarm of bees around a sweet lavender bush.

The Giro is one of the most highly respected races on the calendar, a 21-day stage race from Torino to Milano, catering for the mountain goats, the rouleurs and the lean, mean sprinting machines over a total of 3,479.9km.

The first Giro d’Italia took place in 1909 and bringing a batch of superior Italians to the podium, something that has continued throughout the years. In 1931 a sports Journalist named Armando Cougnet introduced the idea of the pink jersey, the Maglia Rosa, to enable spectators to easily pick out the race leader from the bunch with ease. The first cyclist to wear it was Learco Guerra in 1931, continuing the run of Italian wins that has continued into the 21st Century.

Giro winners go down in history because this Grand Tour Race is one of the toughest and warrants great respect to anyone who finishes it, let alone stands on the podium.

The 2020 Giro d’Italia saw the young Brit Tao Geoghegan Hart take the win for Team INEOS Grenadiers Rosa in absolute style, collecting two stage wins and a second place on the way. He now joins the illustrious list of winners that includes the likes of Vincenzo Nibali and Chris Froome.

Many brands produced outrageously eye-catching and super aerodynamic kit for the teams taking part, and many produce kit so that cycling fans can emulate their heroes.

Castelli designed an amazing collection to highlight the 90 years since the birth of the Maglia Rosa. Their collection caters for all kinds of cyclists, including those who just want to spectate. There are race jerseys, stage jerseys, heritage jerseys, t-shirts and shorts, and a range of great accessories for men, women and youths.

Castelli says Tao Geoghegan Hart’s win last year, fulfilling a dream of a young city boy with an enormous heart and a team of supportive mates, was the inspiration for its 2021 Giro collection.

The Maglia Rosa race jersey, fit for a pro, has been proven in the wind tunnel for aerodynamics and is laced with golden highlights in respect of the Trofeo Senza Fine winner’s trophy. Castelli worked with the world leader in performance eco fabrics, Sitip, to produce the kit in 100% recycled yarns within the specification required, earning its “now a victory of the Giro is victory of the planet’ green credentials. It has golden zippers, and a gold effect Maglia Rosa logo on the back and sleeves in tribute to the Trofeo Senza Fine.

The youth jersey has been thought out beautifully. Encouraging the next generation of young cyclists is vital for a blossoming future of bike racing, and kids love to look like their heroes. Similar in design to the competizione jersey, young riders will stand out from the crowd in their own Maglia Rosas, which have full length YKK® zips, making it easy to put on and take off. Castelli have used Sitip’s Velo Light fabric, included the Trofeo Senza Fine tributes and included three rear pockets, allowing for optimum comfort and the ability to carry fuel for those longer rides.

Ride bikes, eat cake, be happy :)
